Glaucoma is a chronic pathology that damages progressively the optical nerve resulting in a progressive loss of vision. This loss of vision is so gradual that the patient does not really notice it until the optical nerve is greatly damaged or the patient is almost blind. This loss of the visual field is similar to that experimented when we enter a tunnel walking backwards.
Though glaucoma is a very serious disease it is painless and presents no symptoms until is completely developed. That is why early detection and treatment are critical to slow, or even halt the progression of the disease.
Dr. Simon has invented a modern laser treatment for glaucoma. He has also designed a new actual version of the trabuculectomy and gold valves.
At IOGS's glaucoma unit you can find the most modern laser and surgical techniques to detect and treat glaucoma, which is considered to be the first cause of blindness in Spain and the second in the world.
